Portland Hit and Run Leaves Pedestrian in Critical Condition

Monday, January 11, 2016

One man is in police custody and another in serious condition in a Portland hospital after a hit and run in South Portland early on Sunday morning.

Central precinct officers responded a report of a driver who struck a pedestrian at 5:58 AM on Sunday, January 10. When officers arrived at the scene of the accident, the intersection of Southwest 11th Avenue and Market Street, they found a 50-year-old male victim suffering from traumatic injuries.

He was transported to a Portland hospital by ambulance. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Police located a suspect, driving a 2015 Ford Mustang, in the area. Concerned he would try to elude officers, police donated a preemptive pursuit intervention technique and spun and stalled the driver in a parking lot at Southwest 19th Ave and West Burnside. The driver was taken into custody.

Officer said preliminary investigations revealed the suspect may have been under the influence of alcohol.
