“Huffing” Driver Arrested for Hit and Run

An Oregon City woman was arrested for DUII in connection with a hit-and-run after police learned she had been "huffing" compressed air containing difluoroethane.

Police were alerted to a driver who had allegedly been involved a hit-and-run crash in Tualatin at 10:47 AM on Wednesday morning. The driver had reportedly hit another occupied vehicle in front of the 7-Eleven on Nyberg Road in Tualatin. According to a witness, the victim got out of the car and attempted to stop the driver, but she drove around the victim and continued down the road.

Another driver who witnessed the crash followed the fleeing suspect, who was driving a Silver Dodge Durango. The witness called 911, telling officers the suspect was driving erratically. 

A West Linn police officer forced the suspect off the road and blocked the Durango and suspected the driver.

In a follow-up investigation, the driver was taken to the hospital after authorities learned she had been “huffing” Office Depot-brand compressed air.

Shannon Marie Harlan, 37, of Oregon City was arrested. It is her third DUI arrest this year and her second involving inhalants. She is scheduled to be arranged on December 18 in Clackamas County for a prior DUI charge.
