Portland Police Officer Injured Responding to Disturbance Call

A North Precinct Officer was injured after responding to a disturbance call on Monday, April 11. He is being treated for non life threatening injuries.

The Incident

Police responded to a call of an individual being disruptive on a bus. Officers arrived in the area of N.E. Sandy Blvd. and N.E. Fremont Street and contacted the subject.

Once the subject exited the bus, officers identified him as James Smith, 29, and learned he had warrants and attempted to arrest him. Smith resisted vigorously but officers eventually took custody of the subject.

During the struggle, an officer, a 9 year veteran, suffered non life threatening injuries.

Smith was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on warrant charges related to assault.
