Police Release Identity of Victim in Sunday’s Fatal Highway 97 Crash

Oregon State Police have identified the victim in the fatal crash that took place on March 6 on Highway 97 as Michael McKain, 49, of Santa Clara, California.

The Incident

Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 97 near milepost 204 at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.

Information indicates that a 1998 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Highway 97 when it lost control on the icy roadway. The Honda crossed over the centerline and collided with a southbound 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT.

The Honda came to res along the southbound shoulder of the highway and the Mitsubishi came to res blocking both lanes of travel.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Justin Guy, 22, and passenger Allen Reeves, 21 were transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls for non-life threatening injuries.

Mckain was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The collision closed the highway for about 3 1/2 hours.
