Monday, January 25, 2016

Two Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct Officers were injured on Saturday while responding to the scene of a domestic disturbance.

Central Precinct officers responded to a residence near Southwest 1st Avenue and Gibbs Street at 3:54 AM on January 23.

Officers arrived at the scene and could hear a female voice inside the home screaming in distress. Police knocked on the door and a male, 22-year-old Zachary Hartley Walen, answered the door and was “immediately combative” according to police.

The officers attempted to escalate the volatile situation but Walen lunged at the officers and attempted to assault both.

As the struggled between Walen and the officers continued near the top of a flight of stairs, 23-year-old Carina Corry began to fight with officers.

Both officers suffered injuries medical treatment at a Portland hospital. One officer was treated and released while the other remains in the hospital for treatment.

Wales and Cory were both booked at the Multnomah County Jail. Cory was charged with assault, assaulting a public safety officers and interfering with a peace officer. Wales was charged with assault and two counts of assaulting a public safety officer.
