Literopolis: A Weekly Round-up Of Portland Literary Events

In the midst of another jam-packed literary week, Reading Frenzy bookstore is marking Veteran's Day on Tuesday with a special reading by 'The Wax Bullet War' author, Sean Davis, and his fellow veterans Robert Stearns and Matthew Robinson. 

Says Reading Frenzy: "Davis transcends politics without ignoring them to bring to light a story of the effects of war on a single soldier." This is a reading for everyone--from veterans to their loved ones, to those of us who would like to know more about the experience of our troops. All are welcome. 7pm,3628 N. Mississippi Ave. FREE

On Tuesday, Annie Bloom's Books hosts award-winning poet and essayist, James Lenfestey and his poet travel narrative, 'Seeking The Cave: A Pilgrimage to Cold Mountain'. 7pm, 7834 SW Capitol Hwy. FREE 

At Powell's on Tuesday, film critic Shawn Levy presents his biography, 'De Niro: A Life', written with unprecedented access to one of the greatest actors of all time. 7:30pm, 1005 W. Burnside St. FREE 

On Wednesday, Nayomi Munaweera presents her prize-winning debut novel, 'Island of a Thousand Mirrors', at Powell's. A compelling, heartbreaking saga of two women on opposing sides of the Sri Lankan Civil War. 7:30pm, 1005 W. Burnside St. FREE 

Also on Wednesday, best-selling author Molly Gloss will read from her latest novel, 'Falling From Horses', at Broadway Books. 7-8pm, 1714 NE Broadway St. FREE 

And on Wednesday at Powell's Cedar Hills location, Leslie Klinger presents 'The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft' with unique insights into the founding father of American horror and science fiction writing. 7pm, 3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. FREE 

Powell's Cedar Hills also welcomes Anne Lamott to Portland this Thursday with her new collection of essays, 'Small Victories: Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace'. 6pm, 3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. FREE 

And on Thursday, In Other Words feminist community center & bookstore, presents Madison Young and her new memoir, 'Daddy', which chronicles her life as a feminist porn star, sex positive educator, and new mother. 7-8:30pm, 14 NE Killingsworth St. FREE 

In Other Words also celebrates the book, 'Grabbing Back:Essays Against The Local Land Grab'. Alexander Reid Ross, Ahjamu Umi, and Maralena Murphy will discuss issues ranging from rural labor organizing in Oregon to fossil fuel extraction in the Pacific Northwest. Thursday, 7-8:30pm, 14 NE Killingsworth St. FREE 

On Friday, Glyph Cafe & Arts space host a reading with their November featured writer, Lisa Steinman. 6-7pm, 804 NW Couch St. FREE 

And Friday sees the release party for Sara Woods' book of linked prose poems, 'Sara or the Existence of Fire'. Woods will be joined by Dena Rash Guzman, Lindsay Allison Ruoff, Zoe Tambling, and Claire Valentine-Fossum. 7pm, 3628 N. Mississippi Ave. FREE 

Also on Friday, Megan Amram--- 'Parks and Recreation' writer, and one of Rolling Stone's "25 Funniest People on Twitter" will be at Powell's for a reading and signing event for her gender/science satire, 'Science...for Her!' 7:30pm, 1005 W. Burnside St. FREE 

Portland author, Chuck Palahniuk will be signing copies of his new novel, 'Beautiful You' at Powell's on Saturday afternoon. 2pm, 1005 W. Burnside St. FREE 

And later on Saturday, Glyph hosts the book launch for Elliott Youngs 'Alien Nation', the "first transnational history of Chinese migration to the Americas". 5:30-7pm, 804 NW Couch St. FREE 

And it's a busy day for Glyph on Sunday. In the afternoon, join them for a poetry reading with Tim Shaner and Kyle Schlesinger at 2pm and, later that evening, Portland's Poetry Slam continues at the earlier time of 5pm. Both events suggest a $5 donation. 804 NW Couch St. 

Also on Sunday, Literary Arts presents poets Carl Adamshick and Jessica Johnson for an evening of reading and conversation. 7pm, 925 SW Washington St. FREE
