Beto O’Rourke Drops Out of 2020 Presidential Race

Beto O’Rourke has dropped out of the 2020 presidential race, he announced on Friday.

“Our campaign has always been about seeing clearly, speaking honestly, and acting decisively. In that spirit: I am announcing that my service to the country will not be as a candidate or as the nominee,” O’Rourke said in a tweet.

He continued, “I am grateful to all the people who made up the heart and soul of this campaign. You were among the hundreds of thousands who made a donation, signed up to volunteer or spread the word about this campaign and our opportunity to help decide the election of our lifetime.”

President Donald Trump reacted to the news of O’Rourke dropping out via Twitter.

“Oh no, Beto just dropped out of race for President despite him saying he was “born for this.” I don’t think so.”

About O’Rourke

O’Rourke represented Texas's 16th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019.

His career began in 2005 when he was elected to the El Paso City Council, serving until 2011.

O'Rourke was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 after defeating eight-term incumbent Democrat Silvestre Reyes in the primary.

After being re-elected to the House in 2014 and 2016, O'Rourke didn’t seek re-election in 2018. Instead, he ran for United States Senate against incumbent Republican Ted Cruz and lost.

O’Rourke announced his campaign for President of the United States on March 14, 2019.
