Newly Activated Signs Shine Light on Interstate Traffic

The signs, placed so that drivers can use the information to change their planned route, will tell freeway drivers how long it’s going to take to reach certain destinations or landmarks. The signs were installed earlier this year, but had not been turned on while transportation conducted tests of travel time estimates.
Oregon and Washington both already had signs that told drivers how long it would take to reach certain places in their own state, but now the two states have combined their traffic-tracking technology to give interstate commuters more information about their trips.
The project cost the Oregon $375,000, offset by contributions from local transportation agencies.
