The winter holiday season is kicking into full gear. This means there's going to be no shortage of ways to keep yourself entertained in the coming month. Here are five options to help you get started.

5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche

Doesn’t that title already make you want to go see this play? The Chicago Tribune described the show as “a farcical romp behind whose silliness lies some social and political observation that remains potent even in the dawning age of legalized gay marriage.” Somewhere in a run-of-the-mill middle American town in 1956, the widows of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of the Gertrude Stein are attending their annual breakfast and award ceremony and eagerly awaiting the revelation of the prize-winning quiche. However, an incoming atomic bomb forces the five women to confront their inner fears and confide their deepest secrets.  Dec. 4 –20, Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2 pm, The Sanctuary at Sandy Plaza, 1785 NE Sandy Blvd, $15-35. Click HERE for ticket information.

Portland Gay Men’s Chorus – A Holiday Celebration

The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus has undeniably become a Portland staple, and have been channeling the holiday spirit in their annual musical event for 35 years. This weekend, over 150 chorus members will be celebrating the season and singing their hearts out with traditional and non-traditional songs channeling the spirit of Christmas, Hanukkah, the Solstice, and the New Year. Dec. 5-7, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 3 pm, Newmark Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway Ave., $15-48. Click HERE for ticket information.

The Portland Bazaar

With so many holiday sales and bazaars popping up like mushrooms in the month of December, why attend this one? Well, for one thing, every single vender has been handpicked by the Portland Bazaar staff, and as a result, the staff have assembled an actual army of talented creators who are masters at making high-quality goods. Over 50 local vendors will be selling everything from fine art, food and spirits, clothing, music, and home goods. Friday Dec. 5 at 5-9 pm, Saturday and Sunday Dec. 6-7 and 13-14 at 9 am – 4 pm, Splash Studios, 419 NE 9th Ave., $10 on Friday and FREE all other days. Click HERE for more information.

ScanFair

If you’re curious about international winter holiday traditions, the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation is sponsoring the 30th annual ScanFair, a veritable Christmas festival designed to celebrate Christmas in the Nordic traditions. There will be Scandinavian food, arts and crafts, live music and dancing, and a visit from Joulupukki, the Finnish Santa Clause. All proceeds will go towards  supporting PSU Nordic language classes and the ongoing operations of the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation. Dec. 6-7, Saturday at 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday at 10 am – 4 pm, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 300 N. Winning Way, $7 for adults, $6 for seniors/students, $15 for families (2 adults, 2 children), FREE for kids 12 and under. Click HERE for more information.

Holiday Ale Festival

If you're still trying to get warm this weekend following the city's week-long cold snap, there's no better place to do that than the Holiday Ale Festival. Over 50 potent winter ales from some of Portland's best breweries will be availalbe on tap to sample, all of which were created in celebration of the holiday season specifically for the festival. In other words, you won't find these at the grocery stores. If the festival leaves you thirsting for more, check out our slideshow for some additional winter ale recommendations. Dec. 3-7, 11 am - 10 pm, Sunday at 10 am - 5 pm, Pioneer Square, $35 (includes souvenir mug and 12 tasting tickets), 21+.
