Fit For Life: Dealing With Life’s Issues

I am not writing this article as a motivator, team leader, coach, trainer, business owner, or any of the other hat I wear.

Today I am writing this article as Matt the person that has the same issues as you.

The reason I am able to write motivational and self-help articles is because I am living the same existence as everyone else.

Sometimes I struggle to stay motivated, get up from bed, also get major anxiety, deal with mild depression, like sugary foods, and at times get burnt out just like you.

I was talking with one of my coaches over breakfast and we were both saying how tired and sore we are by the end of the week. Even as fitness professionals, we get tired too. (we just aren’t allowed to complain publicly). We want to energize our members, and it takes a lot of energy from us to do so, therefore we need to avoid draining our members with our problems, and issues.

I then told him to look at the window of the gym. I said, “see all those cars driving by?” well everyone driving them is going to work and hustling to make a living, just like us, and a majority are tired and face the same issues as us. Unless you were born into riches, life is a hustle and grind for everyone.

Life is a mountain.

You can look at it as tough, difficult, and impossible to climb, and feel sorry for yourself because you have problems and have to push through them, or you can ask yourself why do I deserve an easy life.

I tell myself that I’m no better than anyone else and nobody has it easy, so why should I ?

In order to be successful at anything, you need to work hard, and not until you have gone through the rigors and put in the time can you consider yourself entitled to an easy life.

Look back at history from prehistoric times through the civil, revolutionary, and world wars, right up to the present. Which generation had it easy. Which group had a Disneyland lifestyle. None of them.

Now look at that mountain and say: “Holy crap, that’s going to be a long tough climb, so I better prepare myself for anything that comes at me.” Then start taking inventory and figure out what you need to do.

I wanted to write this article because I heard the band Metallica on the radio talking about anxiety and depression, and it resonated with me.

It resonated because this is becoming an epidemic and the statistics are mind-blowing.

Over 30 million people in the US are dealing with Anxiety and depression, and its only getting worse.

It’s the root cause of suicide, and in my opinion it plays a huge role in our health epidemic we are facing also.

When people are down, they self-destruct. You start feeling worthless, and stop caring about yourself, and I am here to tell you that there is a solution, and we are all worth it.

We are all worthy of living our best lives, we just need to accept the fact that it won’t be easy.

Making money, and staying fit takes a lot of work, effort, and good advice.

I have found out over the years that even the people I admire and look up to have the same issues, so it’s nice to know that you are not alone, and that there isn’t anything wrong with you. You are not an isolated case, and there is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.

Learning from your mistakes as well as others is the only way to make positive changes in your life. You can’t teach, consult, or motivate until you have done it and earned your stripes.

You can’t write effectively or give advice on things that you haven’t experienced yourself, otherwise you are just another talking head.

That’s why it is good for me to hear from someone I admire and look up to, and know that they can help, because they have experienced the same issues as you.

There are a thousand ways to deal and cope with the issues in life that we face. Far too many to write about in this short article, however I can give you a few to get started.

First, realize that it’s not about you. What happens or has happened to you, has happened to many others before, and you are not an isolated case, so eliminate the “why me” attitude, and know it’s not personal.

Second, understand that nothing good comes easy, so when you get frustrated, realize that anything good requires a lot of effort. It’s easy to give up, but takes a warrior to push through.

Third, talk to someone. Not to compare misery, but to vent. Find solutions with others, but don’t sit around wallowing or having a pity party. Find solutions, don’t magnify problems!!

Lastly, take care of you. The only thing I can say that I do really well is take care of myself. Eat right, workout regularly, and get enough sleep. Shit will always happen to you and if you are physically sound, things will be easier to fix, so stay consistent with your health and fitness program. Being sick and out of shape will only enhance poor self-image, esteem, and worth, therefore magnifying your problems and issues.

Your health and fitness is the one thing in life you CAN control!!

Strava gets the highest mark of all the cycling apps.  While it is also great for runners, the cyclers seem particularly inclined towards the fierce competition that can be ignited by this app.  You can track all of your rides via GPS, then you can compare your efforts to those logged by others in the community on the same stretch of road.  You can also join ongoing challenges that can net you great prizes (in addition to bragging rights).
