Pablo Villegas Kicks Off Oregon Symphony

Friday, September 11, 2015

Pablo Villega

The Oregon Symphony kicks off its 2015-2016 season with world-renowned classical guitarist Pablo Villegas this Saturday, September 12th.

Villegas' reputation as one of the world's greatest classical guitarists precedes his performance in Portland. Having won the Andrés Segovia award at the age of 15, he was also a Gold Medal winner at the inaugural Christopher Parkening International Guitar Competition, and a recipient of Spain's highest musical honor, El Ojo Crítico.

Villegas joins The Oregon Symphony along and Music Director Carlos Kalmar on Friday. He will perform John Corigliano's Troubadours and Paul Dukas’ ballet La Pèri, which takes its narrative from an ancient Persian fable and is rarely heard performed in its entirety.

The performance with Villegas is considered to be the opening of the Oregon Symphony's 2015-2016 season, which follows a hugely successful 2014-2015 season.

“Few performers electrify audiences like Pablo. When audiences shot to their feet at his recent Oregon Symphony debut, we wanted him back with us as soon as possible – this time with another of Rodrigo’s riveting guitar concertos. It’s classical guitar like you’ve never heard before!” - Oregon Symphony.

Villegas will be at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on September 12th at 7:30 PM. Tickets start at $23 and can be purchased online at Oregon Symphony Ticket Office.
