Why The Seemingly Snubbed Damian Lillard Will Still Make the All-Star Team
Friday, January 30, 2015
The internet--along with Lillard's teammates and supporters--went wild.
But the fact remains: Lillard is likely to join the Western Conference All-Stars, including teammate LaMarcus Aldridge, in New York this February.
For that, thank Kobe Bryant.
Bryant, voted a starter by fans, is scheduled to undergo a shoulder surgery that will keep him off the court for the next nine months.
When all that becomes official--unless, for some wild reason Bryant, seemingly unable to play now, takes off the comings weeks only to start in the All-Star game--Lillard will be next in line take his place.
As many of the NBA media-sphere noted, including, most-preeminently, Charles Barkely, Lillard deserved the nod in the first place
And when Bryant presumably bows out, he'll get it.
In the meantime, behold a sample of the righteous indignation Lillard's snub inspired:
Charles Barkley is really mad that @Dame_Lillard isn't an all-star. Watch » http://t.co/4nUlhqGVlN #VoteLillard pic.twitter.com/BOEb78mtZk

We may have to open a robbery investigation into how @Dame_Lillard of our @trailblazers was left off the #NBAAllStarNYC roster. #VoteLillard

I will be flying back to Portland this weekend to be with my people in this dark, dark time of Dame's exclusion from the All-Star game.
