Clemson Tops Preseason Coaches Poll for First Time in School History

Clemson received 59 of 65 first-place votes in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll.
No. 2 Alabama received the other six first-place votes. Sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence returns to the Tigers, who defeated Alabama 44-16 in the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. It is the first time since 2015 that the Crimson Tide are not ranked No. 1 to start the season.
Rounding out the top 5 are Georgia at No. 3, followed by No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 5 Ohio State.
It is the first time since 1992 that the preseason top 5 consists of the same schools in consecutive seasons.
