Blazers Top Celtics for Seventh Straight Win

Monday, November 24, 2014

BLAZERS 94, CELTICS 88

THAT WAS: Never really in doubt. Sure, the Celtics began the game with a seven-nothing run. But it was Portland's first game on this east coast this season--Sunday afternoon, no less. They just needed a little coffee. And yeah, Boston's 11-3 spurt shrunk the Blazers' lead from double-digits to just four in the final minute. But the Blazers hung in there, tightened their defense, and took care of business, frustrating a lousy Celtics team before they made any real noise.

RIGHTEOUS RESERVES: Steve Blake and Chris Kaman. The veteran duo scored 27 of Portland's 31 bench points. Blake was particularly sharp on offense, even providing a seldom seen highlight as he shook Evan Turner out of his shoes.

MVP: None. No Blazer was truly outstanding, Sunday afternoon. With 12 and 20 points, respectively, Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge led the way, though each shot poorly from the field. (Lillard: 4-of-14, Aldridge 7-of-21). Each found other avenue to contribute, mostly by sucking up rebounds. Aldridge grabbed a game-high 14 while Lillard scooped up nine to go along with five assists.

STREAKING: The Blazers have won seven straight games. How high could it go? With games against the historically awful 76ers and struggling Hornets on tap, nine seems almost assured. Ten will be a bit tougher, however, as Portland plays host to the league-leading Grizzlies on Friday.

KILLER TWEETS:
