Commute Conditions: Weather Advisory in Effect Until 10 p.m. for Metro Area

Thursday, November 13, 2014

A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for the Portland Metro Area until 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Residents of Portland, Vancouver, Gresham, Troutdale and Washington County should expect a mix of freezing rain and sleet, with brief periods of snow through Thursday evening, according to a National Weather Service Advisory.

One to two tenths of an inch of ice is possible through this evening mainly in the West Hills and other "elevated" areas.  East winds with gusts 25 to 35 mph are expected to remain “brisk” through late Thursday afternoon. Winds will gradually ease Thursday evening, the advisory states.

Commuters and travelers were warned of potentially hazardous road conditions.  The NWS stated:

"Secondary roads may become icy in places making travel difficult at times…a winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and use caution while driving."

The Portland Burea of Transportation warned of black ice conditions and urged caution when traveling.
