Washington tops the list as it is home to Bill Gates worth $81.5 billion. And the state with the least wealthy person? Wyoming, home to owner of the NHL team New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Jonathan Ledecky worth $340 million (practically living in poverty, huh?)
Although some of the list makers got a boost from family fortune, 35 out of the 50 people are self-made entrepreneurs, according to Wealth-X.
Only six women made the list, including Wal-Mart heiress Christy Walton of Arkansas, Abigail Johnson Fidelity Investments CEO of Massachusetts, and Cox Enterprises heiress Anne Cox Chambers of Georgia.
