Leaving valuables in your car is never a good idea. Even a coat or pack of cigarettes left in plain view on the passenger's seat warrants a broken car window in Downtown Portland. But in some parts of the state, you have to be just as careful about where you park your car.
See Slides Below: The 10 Oregon Counties With the Most Car Theft
GoLocalPDX in Partnership with FindTheBest found the Oregon counties with the highest rates of stolen cars. The study recorded the number of stolen vehicles per 100,000 people for each county, and despite its small size, Sherman County ranked number one, with a higher car theft rate than anywhere else in Oregon.
Portland is a lot of things, but definitely not a city burdened by rampant grand theft auto. Multnomah County ranked no where near the top of the list, with a low car theft rate of just 5.4 vehicles per 100,000 residents. But neighboring Clackamas County ranked 3rd on the list of worst car theft areas.
Overall, Western Oregon counties have higher car theft rates than Eastern counties. See the car theft density heat map below for more information, and see the slideshow below for the full list of the top 10 counties with the most car theft.
