One of two climbers that were stranded on Mt. Jefferson in Marion County has died after he fell into a crevasse. Rescuers have reached the other climber and have reported that she is in good condition.

Tommy Fountain, 32, and his wife Alison, 29, were stranded on Oregon’s second highest peak in what police described as “difficult” terrain. Fountain fell into a crevasse and died as a result of his injuries from the fall.

Alison Fountain was able to communicate with rescuers via text messaging while she was stranded, helping them to find exactly where she was located. Police said that she is in good condition. They are currently working to move both Alison and Tommy down the mountain.

Marion and Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies first began looking for the pair on Monday morning and first reached the pair shortly before 9:30 AM.
