Inmate Dies in Multnomah County Detention Center

At roughly 10:40 PM on Thursday, December 31, a corrections officer conducting a routine security and welfare check found 28-year-old William Coupchiak unresponsive in his cell.
The deputy called for medical help as he entered the cell. Medical workers worked to save Coupchiak’s life, but were unable to revive him.
Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Medical Examiner responded to begin the death investigation. MCSO Detectives are handling the investigation and the body has been turned over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office.
The Cause of Death is still under investigation and pending a toxicology review.
