Five Fun Things To Do This Weekend: Nov. 14-16

Friday, November 14, 2014

You have two weekends before you have to put up with estranged family members for a good couple of days. Lucky for you, Portland is packed with fun, exciting and thought-provoking events this weekend. GoLocalPDX brings you five top attractions, or the crème de la crème, of what this weekend has to offer.

The funny looking man with even funnier jokes gets you to laugh before he even opens his mouth. The man's got jokes, from simple day-to-day observations to farting on a harmonica. Regardless of your preference, his comedic approach and delivery make him one of today's funniest comedians. Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Ave., 288-3895. Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm. +21. Click HERE for ticket information.

Disjecta's Eighth Annual Art Auction

Selling art now to see more art in the future is Disjecta's aim for their annual art auction. Disjecta Contemporary Art Center builds programs to display and promote artists' new work, and since this auction's proceeds will be going towards the Center's operating budget, your bid will help promote future art shows. Oh, and there will be free drinks. Disjecta Contemporary Art Museum, 8371 N Interstate Ave., 286-9449. Saturday, Nov. 15, 7pm. Click HERE for ticket information.

evo Grand Opening Party

The action sports and apparel retailer will be hosting a Grand Opening Party for the company's new Portland location. The party will be benefiting the Chill Foundation and sporting a yet-to-be-revealed music headliner. Heads up, Talib Kweli has made an appearance for them before. Free food and drinks will be provided in addition to a photo booth, silent auction, gift bags, athlete signings and art. 200 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Sat., November 15, 7pm-12pm. Click HERE for ticket information.

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater - Holiday Circus!

You may think to yourself, "These poor animals are basically being used by a traveling circus." Well, that's what I thought initially until I read more about Greg Popovich, a fifth-generation circus performer who has rescued and trained more than 30 animals for his traveling act. Now these animals are off the streets, have a full-time job and are off the government dole, all in the name of fun, family-fun pet comedy. Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie, Sunday, Nov. 16, 3pm & 7pm. Click HERE for ticket information.

Richard Mosse's The Enclave

The Enclave is a new video installation at the Portland Art Museum. The mastermind behind the video installation, Richard Mosse,  used discontinued military film technology used to expose camoflauged installations during World War II. The Enclave covers an ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and since the technology recognizes a spectrum of infrared light, objects and landscapes appear in very bright colors. Mosse's ability to utilize technology as a medium for advocacy makes this project an intellectual and artistic piece of art, and an overall can't-miss experience. Portland Art Museum, 1219 SW Park Ave., 226-2811, Nov. 8-Feb. 15, 2015. 10am-5pm.
