Amazon Web Services, an Amazon company, has announced that it will acquire
Elemental Technologies, Inc., a Portland-based company. The deal is expected to close in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2015.
Elemental Technologies is a software company which focuses on the delivery of high-quality video footage to multi-platform digital viewing options. They make it simpler for companies to take live and on-demand video, intended for traditional networks like satellite and cable, and make that video available for PCs, handheld devices, and modern televisions. With over 700 franchise media clients, Elemental is currently supporting the first 4K Ultra HD service, including those delivered by the BBC during the 2014 World Cup.
Elemental's technology will help Amazon Web Services' Cloud platform provide media and entertainment companies with a range of solutions to economically scale video infrastructure in an increasingly internet-based world of video delivery.
Details about the acquisition haven't been disclosed, and are still subject to closing conditions, but it has been announced that Elemental will continue to operate under its existing brand, offering the same full range of services. Elemental will also expand as it becomes integrated with Amazon, and the two companies will work to be at the forefront of next-generation innovations for their customers.
