Willamina Middle School Teacher Arrested for Assaulting 6 Year Old Child

On Friday, May 1st, Detectives with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office arrested a Willimina Middle School teacher after she allegedly struck her 6 year old child on April 29th, injuring the victim's face.
Police arrested Heather McDonald Hughes, 37, for Criminal Mistreatment I and Assault III after developing probable cause that she struck her child. Hughes was loged in the Yamill County Jail by Detective Nicole Rickles just before midnight on May 1st, according to detectives. Hughes' bail was originally set at $15,000, but $1,500 secured her release a few hours later. She will appear for arraignment today at 1:30 p.m.
It appears the incident happened in a vehicle while traveling to their residence. The case was referred to the Sheriff's Office by the Department of Human Services Child Welfare division.
