Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced Monday a plan to stop barring transgender people from serving in the military. The plan involves a 6-month study to investigate the practicalities of allowing transgender people to serve openly in the U.S. military.

Oregon is among the top three states for having the most transgender people along with Washington and Vermont.
