Bailey Scores Major Endorsement — Winning artPAC’s Support

Monday, March 07, 2016

In Portland, arts is a big part of the fabric of the community, its big business and it matters in politics.

artPAC, the Oregon Arts & Culture Political Action Committee, announced its endorsement of Jules Bailey for Mayor.

"Arts and culture plays a vital role in the livability of our community. Jules Bailey understands how art drives our economy and improves our city for everyone. artPAC is proud to support Jules Bailey for Mayor." said Stanley Penkin, Co-founder and Treasurer of artPAC.

On his Plan for Portland, Bailey has committed to “make Portland a magnet for arts and culture by supporting arts organizations and artists, and helping communities, especially disadvantaged communities, express themselves through art and culture.”

The artPAC cited Bailey’s work as Multnomah County Commissioner.  He followed through on his commitment to sustaining and increasing public funding for the arts by advocating to increase Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) funding from $170,000 to $300,000. This increase in public funding allows RACC to expand its work with artists and the arts in our community.

The endorsement from artPAC is key for Bailey’s grassroots campaign because arts and culture supporters can bolster his fundraising. Bailey has limited contributions to $250 per individual or organization and has raised funds from over 500 people since entering the race in January.

The mission is to expand the voice of the arts in the political process by reaching out with a more global perspective to encourage public support from all communities within the entire region. artPAC supports candidates for public office who commit to increase public funding for the arts in the region.
