Exotic Thai restaurant Langbaan, relaxed tapa bar Ataula, and Russian snack and vodka joint Kachka make GQ’s (Gentleman's Quaterly) magazine's Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2015 list.

Langbaan- “Back of the House”

The homey thai joint is situated in a larger restaurant, behind a secret door  that has a meat grinder attached to it. The current menu features snacks like sun-dried snakehead fish and coconut dungeness crab curry.

GQ writer Alan Richman refered to the "scallop sitting in a crispy cup made from coconut milk and rice flour" as being "sumptuous".

Langbaan is a Best New Restaurant semifinalists for the 2015 James Beard Awards. Additionally Langbaan chef Rassamee Ruaysuntia was applauded by Elle magazine as a influential women in the food game.

The Back Room at 6 SE 28th Avenue, (971) 344-2564.

Ataula- “To the Table”

Gastro and tapas bar Ataula makes high quality degustation food that is meant to gather loved ones together for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Richman commends Chef Jose Chesa's dishes calling them “inventive, skilled, and gorgeously composed.”

Enjoy braised oxtail ravioli, calamari and toasted noodles in squid ink, or a chorizo lollipop.

Kachka

If you’re looking for a vodka cocktail, traditional cold zakuski, and a Soviet atmosphere then Kachka’s your place to go.

Happy hour menu includes Taranka, what they describe as fish jerky, for three bucks and a couple of five dollar cocktails. Richman recommends the Herring Under a Fur Coat, a Russian seven layer dip salad with herring, eggs, beets, and other veggies.
