At Powell’s at Cedar Hills, Hugo and Nebula-award winning author Jo Walton will be at Powell’s at Cedar Hills reading from her new book The Philosopher Kings, the sequel to The Just City in which the goddess Athene transports Platonists from all over time to create the Just City according to the principles and values of The Republic, one of the cornerstones for Western philosophical thought.3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd., 7pm, FREE
Interested in the history of Portland’s streetcars? Historian Richard Thompson will be at Powell’s City of Books discussing the importance of the Slabtown neighborhood to the city’s budding streetcar network in the late nineteenth century, a subject further explored in his book Slabtown Streetcars. 1005 W Burnside St., 7:30pm, FREE

TUESDAY
At Broadway Books, poet Wayne Lee will be reading from his new collection Googling a Present Participle, whose poems use an intersectional lens explore the effect of technology on our daily lives. 1714 NE Broadway Ave., 7-8pm, FREE
John Scalzi, award-winning and bestselling science fiction author will be at Powell’s at Cedar Hills presenting the sixth book written in the Old Man’s War universe titled The End of All Things in which the human, space-faring Colonial Union is crumbling, multiple alien species are primed to attack, and someone is attacking both the Union and aliens for unknown reasons. 3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd., 7pm, FREE
Novelist Craig Lesley and Jeff Baker, book editor at the Oregonian, will be engaging in a discussion at Powell's City of Books in tribute of the recently-deceased novelist Ivan Doig and in celebration of his final novel Last Bus to Wisdom, a novel featuring the 1950s American West, an epic road trip, and a cast of colorful characters. 1005 W Burnside St., 7:30pm, FREE

Annie Bloom’s Books will be hosting four YA authors: Marni Bates (Awkwardly Ever After, a novel about the politics of prom); Livia Blackburne (author of the fantasy novel Midnight Thief); Robin Herrera (author of Hope is a Ferris Wheel about a high school outcast who starts a poetry club); and Mary Elizabeth Summer (author of Trust Me, I’m Lying about a teenage con artist on the run). 7834 SW Capitol Hwy, 7-8pm, FREE
Local author Ted Fauster will be at Another Read Through discussing his fantasy/science-fiction series World of Faerel, a world filled with demons, angels, unexplained and ancient technology, and magic. There’ll be a second group of YA authors convening at Powell’s at Cedar Hills in honor of the release of the horror/psychological thriller anthology Slasher Girls and Monster Boys.
