Actresses Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern joined director Jean-Marc Vallée and author Cheryl Strayed at Cinema 21 for the premiere of "Wild" in Portland.
It was quite the star-studded affair on Monday night on Northwest 21st Avenue, the site for the Portland premiere of the much buzzed about film version of Cheryl Strayed's book, "Wild."
This stretch of Northwest was jam-packed with the lucky few who actually got an invite to the exclusive screening as well as looky-loos giving this typically sleepy street a bit of Hollywood glamour.

Adding to the glam was, of course, the stars of the film Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern who both appeared on the red carpet and in front of the audience just prior to the screening. Witherspoon and Dern were joined by "Wild" director Jean-Marc Vallée ("Dallas Buyers Club"), the executive producers of the film and "Wild" author Cheryl Strayed.
Strayed, the author of "Wild" spoke of how she had been traveling a lot lately to promote the film, but that the Portland screening was very important to her, because like "Dorothy" in "The Wizard of Oz" there was "no place like home." Strayed continued by recognizing friends in the room who had helped her along the way (including those who had given her money while she was working on the book) and her much-missed mother, "Bobbie," who, as her inspiration, is the one who gave her the strength to live her wildest dreams. Both Witherspoon and Dern were visibly moved by Strayed's tender words.
Also moved by Strayed's words and the movie itself were several elected officials and a who's who of Portland's best and brightest including Nancy and Mayor Charlie Hales who wore hiking boots in honor of the occasion, City Commissioner Nick Fish, Rep. Jennifer Williamson, House Speaker Tina Kotek and authors Chelsea Cain, Jon Raymond and Shawn Levy.
Other attendees included Oregon Film Commission's Jane Ridley and Tim Williams, Linea Gagliano, LIsa Itel, OMPA's Tom McFadden, Portland Film Festival's Josh Leake, Northwest Film Center's Bill Foster and a few of the guys featured in the film including Greg James and Jeffree Newman.
Many of the attendees gathered at a pre-party at Laura Russo Gallery hosted by Travel Oregon and an after-party at 23Hoyt that went late into the evening.
Yes, it was quite the "Wild" night.
