King Portland Farmers Market Announces Upcoming Classes

The classes are Fresh Salsa & Tortillas, Purples Basil Pickled Tomatoes and Bone Broth and Seasonal Soups.
“Classes are equally suited to seasoned market-goers and those new to the neighborhood market experience. Shoppers are encouraged to register in advance since spaces are limited,” said the Farmers Market in their press release.

The Classes
Fresh Salsa & Tortillas – Sunday, July 15
Location: King Farmers Market
Learn how to make fresh salsas & tortillas with Hot Mama Salsa!
In this class you will craft handmade tortillas, learn about chili peppers and become familiar with Hot Mama’s essential salsa making tools and cooking techniques.
You will go home with farm-fresh salsa, delicious tortillas and confidence in making more to share (or not share).
$25 tickets can be purchased at the King Market Manager’s Booth.
All skill levels welcome. Minors 8+ with an adult ticket-holder welcome.
Purple Basil Pickled Tomatoes – Sunday, August 12
Location: King Farmers Market
In this class, Sarah Marshall, of Marshall’s Haute Sauce, will walk you through all you need to know about water bath canning and the basics of pickling. You’ll have hands-on experience canning Purple Basil Pickled Cherry Tomatoes (a recipe from her book, Preservation Pantry) and leave class with the skills you need to put up summer’s bounty!

Bone Broth & Seasonal Soups – Sunday, Sept 9
Location: King Farmers Market
Part demonstration, part hands-on, students will participate in making deeply nourishing sipping broths and use bone broth to make seasonal soups. You’ll walk away with new knowledge and some recipes to try at home! Tressa Yellig, of Wild Heart Solutions, will walk you through the basics of making bone broth, discuss its health benefits, and demonstrate how to build a foundation for flavor with broths.
