Nike Announces ‘BIKETOWN’ Partnership with the City of Portland
Friday, January 08, 2016
The partnership will include $10 million over five years and will increase the number of bike share program bicycles from the initially-planned 600 bikes to 1,00 bikes.
“This is how public-private partnership should be done,” said City of Portland Transportation Commissioner Steve Novice. “We have developed an innovative, next generation bike share system. And in Nike, we have a sponsor that is a brand powerhouse and a global leader in innovation with a long and distinguished record of supporting sports and physical activity in Portland. It’s the perfect fit.”
Nike will also help with the program’s look. The company will contribute designs for BIKETOWN stations, including visual bike identity and digital branding. The bikes will be painted the famous orange Nike color that has become synonymous with the brand.
“We’re proud of our long history of partnership with the City of Portland and believe that the BIKETOWN bike share program is one more example of how we can work together to help make Portland an even more active, vibrant and innovative community – goals Nike and the City of Portland share,” said Nike Vice President of Global Community Impact Jorge Casimiro.
The City of Portland’s Bike Share program is expected to launch in July.
