The Portland Timbers defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to win their first MLS Cup Championship in franchise history.

Portland finished the season with a record of 15-11-8 and in a tie for second place with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Upon entering the playoffs, the Timbers knocked off Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver and FC Dallas to advance to the title match. 

Portland was led this season by Fanendo Adi, who tallied 16 goals, including five game winners.

Diego Valeri had eight assists on the season.
