Jules Bailey picked up two significant environmental endorsements. On Tuesday, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) announced its endorsement of Jules Bailey for Mayor of Portland. On Monday, Bailey won the Sierra Club endorsement.
“Bailey is a longtime champion for Oregon’s environment. He’s a leader and innovator, and as Mayor the environment will be one of his top priorities,” said OLCV in its endorsement.
“With the recent air toxics scare in Portland, Jules was a leading voice calling for local and regional solutions. It’s especially important that our city have a leader with a track record of bringing people together to get things done. That person is Jules Bailey,” said Doug Moore, Executive Director, Oregon League of Conservation Voters.
The two environmental group endorsements are strong affirmation of Bailey’s record and his proposed environmental initiatives for Portland.
According to OLCV, Bailey has “long been a leader in protecting Oregon’s natural legacy, both as a county commissioner and as a state representative.”
“Commissioner Bailey not only has extensive experience and knowledge as a proactive environmental leader, but he has concrete solutions,” said Amira Streeter. “When he answered my question about solving our air toxics problem and how he would fund that, Bailey was confident in explaining his plan. His plan was smart, sustainable, and equitable. He would be a mayor of action.” The Oregon Sierra Club will actively support Jules Bailey’s campaign to be Portland’s next mayor and will mobilize the environmental community’s engagement in this election.
Innovator
Bailey twice won OLCV’s “Innovator of the Year” award as well as “Environmental Leader of the Year” in 2013. “Jules Bailey is an irreplaceable advisor and champion for the environmental community. We are extremely pleased to support Jules Bailey for Mayor,” said Moore.
“The best way for us to return Portland to our national leadership status on reducing climate change is to come together as a city. From divesting away from fossil fuels to building a climate smart transportation system to establishing an environmental justice lens to prioritize energy efficiency and renewable energy investments, I believe we can show the rest of the nation how a city can have a robust climate policy and strong economic growth,” said Jules Bailey.
