Party Report: Election Night at Hilton Hotel
Wednesday, November 05, 2014
Downtown Portland's Hilton Hotel was the site for multiple election night parties including those for winners such as Jeff Merkley, John Kitzhaber, Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici and losers including Yes on 88 (alternative driver's licenses) and No on 90 (open primaries).
Those gathered to celebrate Democratic victories included Mayor Charlie and Nancy Hales, Multnomah County Commissioner Jules Bailey and Speaker of the House Tina Kotek who was also a big winner on election night. When asked if she would consider a run for Governor in the next election Kotek said "don't even go there."
It was a good night for the Democrats in Oregon but not so much nationally. The U.S. Senate is now under the control of the Republicans.

GoLocalPDX asked Democratic fundraiser and Portland developer Terry Bean, who was joined by Gov. Barbara Roberts, if he thought race might have played a role in the bashing that President Barack Obama took in recent polls and at the ballot box. "Of course it did," said Bean. "Our country is a long way from being color blind."
Interesting to note: early in the evening Jeff Merkley's party room at the Portland Hilton had a sign posted just outside its door. It said PRESS with a big NO symbol over it, as in "No Press Allowed." The sign was quickly removed by someone in the Merkley camp who said it sent the wrong message.
