Governor Brown Signs New Motor Voter Bill

Monday, March 16, 2015

On Monday, Governor Kate Brown signed Oregon's New 'Motor Voter' bill, which removes barriers to voter registration and makes it as easy as possible for eligible Oregonians to receive a ballot.

"Oregon is a true leader in voter access," Governor Brown said. "I encourage every eligible Oregonian to participate in the process, and I challenge other states to examine their policies and find ways to ensure there are as few barriers as possible to civic engagement."

While speaking to a crowd in the Governor's Ceremonial Office, Governor Brown emphasized that the state has the ability to make voter registration more cost effective, more secure, and more convenient for Oregonians.

The Governor thanked many partners who worked to pass the legislation and said that now organizations can spend resources educating and engaging voters rather than spending time and energy on voter registration.

"Your voice is your vote," Governor Brown said, "and every single voice matters."
