Portland’s Christmas Tree Arrives on Thursday

The holiday season is upon us. Already, stores have begun putting out their Christmas decorations and displays, and, on Thursday, Portland’s Christmas tree will arrive at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
The tree will arrive at 12 PM on Thursday, November 12 at Pioneer Courthouse Square. For the 13th consecutive year, the tree has been donated by the Stimson Lumber Company. This year’s tree is a Douglas Fir that stands at 75 feet tall and was grown on sustainable forestlands near Timber, Oregon.
Before arriving, the tree will be paraded along SW Sixth Avenue, along with Santa and the Beat Goes On marching band. Once it reaches its home for the season, Stimson Lumber’s Rodney Jacobs will present the tree to City officials.
While the tree is lifted into place, the celebration will continue. Spectators and guests can enjoy a free hot chocolate from the Unitus Community Credit Union and listen to the festive carols of the Dickens Carolers. Kids, and adults that still believe, will also have the opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus and tell him what they hope to find under the tree this Christmas.
The tree will be lit in a special ceremony held on November 27 at 5:30 PM, after two weeks of reattaching branches and tree limbs. More than 14,000 multicolored lights will illuminate the tree until 2016 hits.
