Portland Electric Bills to Drop
Thursday, December 17, 2015
According to a release, beginning on New Year’s Day, electric rates in Portland will fall. For a typical residential customer using an average of 840-kilowatt hours per month, average monthly bills will drop roughly three dollars.
Residential customers can expect their rates to decrease by 2.8 percent in the coming year. Industrial electric bills will drop by 3.6 percent and large commercial businesses can expect a 3.1 percent decrease. Meanwhile, small businesses can expect a .1 percent decrease and medium-sized commercial business can expect a 1.6 percent decrease.
“It is great news that electric rates are going down for this winter’s heating season. We applaud the utility, ratepayer advocacy groups and our staff for their hard work and coming together to reach what we find to be a just and reasonable resolution to a myriad of complex and arcane issues in the rate case.” said Susan Ackerman, Chair of the Public Utility Commission of Oregon.
The Commission also adopted the framework for revising rates in the first half of 2016 when the new Carty Generating Station comes into service, as long as the plant is fully operational by July 31, 2016.
