Patient Hospitalized for Ebola Testing in Providence Milwaukie Hospital

Friday, October 31, 2014

A Portland female patient is isolated and being tested for Ebola in Providence Milwaukie Hospital this afternoon, according to Oregon Health Authority officials.

The patient recently traveled to West Africa and had been monitored by health officials upon her return. She showed no symptoms until this morning when she developed a persistent fever. An onsite assessment determined she should be moved to isolation and was transported to the hospital for testing.

The test will be sent to the CDC in Atlanta for official confirmation, but it may take a few days.

Health officials said in a press conference that all the guidelines and procedures for transportation and isolation were followed. Also, there was no risk for public exposure to the disease.

The patient’s restricted to her home during her monitoring because she was determined to be at low risk for Ebola.  Other members of her household are currently under voluntary home quarantine while medical teams finish their assessment.
