NEW: Mult. County Sheriff’s Office Ramps Up DUII Patrols

Friday, December 19, 2014

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting extra DUII patrols the next few weeks, as part of a nationwide traffic safety campaign against impaired drivers.

Through January 5, 2015, Sheriff’s Deputies will actively seek out and arrest drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as part of DUII enforcement patrols.

The goal of the increased patrols is to reduce motor vehicle deaths and injuries, as well as educate the public, Lt. Steve Alexander with the Multnomah County Sheriff Office said in a media statement.

The patrols are supported by a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact.

To help combat impaired driving, the Sheriff’s Office offered these tips for the holiday season:

  • Arrange rides home for family, friends, co-workers, and yourself before drinking at a get-together begins.
  • Party hosts and severs should limit drinks severed to guests or patrons.
  • Cut back on the amount of drinks you bring to a party and provide plenty of food.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who notices dangerous or impaired driving to report the incident by calling 911.
