Happy Thanksgiving and Thanks, from GoLocalPDX
Thursday, November 27, 2014
When we started, almost 90 days ago, we promised Portland that we would be a vital new online source of information for this great city.
With a community of some over forty contributors, guest writers and freelance reporters, we posted over 1,600 stories so far. Those stories have ranged from an exposes on sexual assaults at Oregon’s public colleges, to lists of our favorite donut shops, to personal essays in praise of nude selfies.
You, the reader, have responded to our efforts. GoLocalPDX hit one million pageviews in its first 10 days in operation. With 17,117 Facebook fans and 2,314 Twitter followers in just over three months, you’ve shown us that so far you like what you’ve seen.
The story is in the numbers
The numbers tell the story and the numbers don’t lie; so we’ve been paying close attention to our metrics.
The numbers have told us that Portland was more than ready for an all-digital news source, one focused on delivering news through the social media platforms they use most.
The numbers are also teaching us what kind of stories you care about most.
They’ve shown us that you like to our reporting on the latest restaurant openings and closings, celebrity gossip and insider lifestyle coverage. And the numbers say, you like our style of hard-nosed political reporting.
But most of all, the numbers tell us that you love this community you live in.
Whether it’s adventures in the strange and dark corners of Portlandia, by LiveWire producer Courtenay Hameiser or Becki Saltzman, or guest columns from local thought leaders like Joe Cortright or Rex Burkholder, you’ve shown that you love stories about Portland, written by Portlanders.
We get it.
And we’re just getting started.
In the coming year, we will continue to improve our coverage, our reach and impact. Our voice will continue to evolve as we continue to grow with you, the reader.
Please keep following and coming back for more. We’re only going to get better.
So, thank you for your support and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
And a special thanks to all the people who have made GoLocalPDX possible: our contributors and staff (past and present), supporters, sources, backers, friends and family. You know who you are. We could not have come even this far without your tremendous efforts.
Thanks.
