An event on Thursday morning will ask the public what a massive cap over Interstate 405 in downtown Portland might look like.
ProspectPDX Insight series will present speakers and a history of plans to cover I-405 trench with a park or developable land for office buildings or other uses. The idea was championed by former Portland Mayor Vera Katz. The event will present a discussion on the freeway cap idea and other projects envisioned in the city’s West Quadrant Plan.
Architecture critic Brian Libby and professor Dan Friedman will speak on the issue and discuss other freeway covering
projects in cities such as Columbus, Ohio. Representatives from the City of Portland will also be on hand to answer questions.
The Insight series is sponsored by the public relations firm ProspectPDX. The event will be held on Thursday January 29th at ProspectPDX, 434 NW 6th Ave., Suite 302. A continental breakfast will be served and doors open at 7:45 a.m. The presentation starts at 8:00 a.m.
