Data Shows Metals Above Air Quality Targets Near Precision Castparts
Friday, May 20, 2016
Though the levels are above health based target concentrations, they are below Oregon 24 hour screening levels meaning that there is no indication of an immediate public health threat, according to Oregon Health Authority. There are no special precautions needed for residents in the area.
The Data
This data is the first of 35 day monitoring results from one of three monitors that the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality set up at Southeast 45th Avenue and Southeast Harney Drive, northwest of Precision Castparts.
The data shows arsenic levels were more than four times above the health based target ambient benchmark concentration for the metal, although still within what's found in urban environments for the area. Meanwhile nickel was nearly two times above target while hexavalent chromium was just over one time above target.
Air Monitoring
Air monitoring is continuing daily, and the devices are operated 2 hours a day.
The data that is being reported is for dates between March 30 and May 4.
Data from two additional monitors placed near Precision Castparts will be available in mid-June.
Data that is complete will be released when it becomes available.
