Spotted in Portland: Sam Adams On Portlandia Set & at Powell’s

Former Portland Mayor Sam Adams, fresh from working with the White House on issues surrounding climate change, jetted back to Portland for a short vacation and an appearance on both the set of "Portlandia" and at a book reading at Powell's Books.

During his break this intrepid fellow has been able to squeeze in a couple of high-profile appearances including a return to the set of “Portlandia” where he plays an assistant to the Portland "mayor" played by Kyle MacLachlan. On his Facebook page Adams took time to shoot a selfie and say: “fun filming season 6 of Portlandia w/director Jonathan Krisel, Kyle MacLachlan & #Pdx's GREAT production crew & actors — at Portland City Hall.”

Sam Adams will also appear on Wednesday at Powell’s Books in conversation with Kevin Palau. According to a brief descripition of their reading: "In 2007, Kevin Palau and a few dozen pastors approached Portland Mayor Sam Adams and posed the question: How can we serve you with no strings attached? Officials identified five initial areas of need — hunger, homelessness, healthcare, the environment, and public schools — and so began a partnership, CityServe, between the city and a band of churches. Since then, the CityServe model has spread like wildfire, inspiring communities across the country to take up the cause in their own cities. Palau's Unlikely (Howard Books) tells the story of the inception of CityServe, but also challenges readers to evaluate their understanding of the gospel."

"Unlikely," Kevin Palau in conversation with Sam Adams, Powell’s Books, 1005 W Burnside St., 7:30 pm Wednesday, August 5. Free.
