Party Report: Content 2014 at Ace Hotel Portland
Monday, October 20, 2014
Four years ago, Ace Hotel Portland got together with some of Portland's top designers to co-create CONTENT, a living installation in the guest rooms on the second floor of the hipster-friendly downtown hotel—each designer handcrafted, populated and brought to life an embodiment of their inspirations and identities, and this year a talented crop of designers joined Ace in an unguided adventure through their one-of-a-kind, one-night-only installations.
This year’s designers and artists include Liza Rietz + BOET, Fieldwork Flowers, Bridge & Burn, Dehen 1920, Kayla Mattes, Bean Goods, Alexa Stark, Brady Lange, Rill Rill, Primecut Bags, Portland Garment Factory, Holly Stalder, Emily Katz, Betsy & Iya, Imaginary Authors, Reif Haus, Shwood, Older Brother, Caesy Oney, Mazama, Caravan Pacific, Trust Co., Duchess Clothier, Ancliffe Collection, WWWJD Design, Kirikomade, Doberman Menswear and Primal Haunt.
It is one thing to go to fashion show and quite another to go to a fashion installation...er...installations. This year seemed less about showcasing product and more about showing ideas. It took a moment for your eyes to adjust to Trust's campfire-dark scene. And a few more moments to realize it was a showcase for axes. There was something great about that, and all the other ideas that were shared in each room of the Ace.
Throughout the evening, downstairs, The Cleaners was the site for a pop-up shop where you could buy the designs featured on the second floor. Curated by Sarah Radcliffe of Yo Vintage! the shop featured other works from local designers and goods.
