Oregon is one of the skinniest states in the union, according to a new study from WalletHub. Oregon was ranked as the 43rd “fattest” state in the country in the study.
Oregon ranked 47th in “Obesity and Overweight Prevalence” and 18th in “Unhealthy Habits and Consequences” the two rankings that WalletHub used in its study.
The study considered 12 metrics divided into the two categories. To determine obesity an overweight prevalence, the researchers factored in a state’s percentage of adults who are overweight, adults who are obese, children who are overweight and children who are obese.
To determine a state’s unhealthy habits and consequences score, researchers considered the percentages of residents who are physically inactive, residents with high cholesterol, adults eating less than one serving of fruits or vegetables a day, residents with diabetes and residents with hypertension. The also considered the sugar-sweetened beverage consumption of adolescents, the death rate due to obesity and healthy food access.
Oregon came in with the second lowest percentage of adults who are overweight, trailing only the District of Columbia. It also had the lowest percentage of obese children of any state, the second lowest percentage of residents who are physically inactive and the third lowest percentage of adults who eat less than one serving of fruits or vegetables a day.
