Grand Central’s 12th Man Loaf Celebrates Seahawks’ Super Bowl Appearance
Tuesday, January 27, 2015
The 12th Man Loaf, a football-shaped batard featuring Grand Central’s slightly tangy, nutty-flavored Peasant dough, is stenciled in flour with the number 12. (Non-football fans: The 12 on the loaf represents the 12th man – Seahawks fans – in a game where 11 players per team are allowed on the field at a time.)
The 12th Man Loaf will be available Friday-Sunday, Jan. 30-Feb. 1st, at every Grand Central Bakery-Cafe. The bread is naturally leavened with wild yeast and features local whole-grain flours.
Grand Central sees the 12th Man Loaf as a good luck charm. “Last year we made it in Seattle for the Super Bowl and we won,” said Mallory Genauer, a sales assistant and die-hard Seahawks fan who came up with the idea. In any case, customers are advised to call or stop by any Grand Central cafe by Tuesday, Jan. 27, to order the special loaves. Supplies are limited.
Win or lose, Seahawks fans could walk away from the game happy: Customers who post a picture of a 12th Man Loaf at their Super Bowl party on Grand Central’s Facebook page have a chance to win a Grand Central Bakery gift card.
