Five Fun Things To Do This Weekend: Oct. 24-26

Friday, October 24, 2014

As you wake up from your Friday afternoon siesta, be sure to check out these 5 events happening this weekend, because just like that *snap of the finger*, you're back at the job you love, right?!

Here's GoLocalPDX's Five Fun Things To Do This Weekend: Oct. 24-26:

Just For Men World Beard and Mustache Championships

If you got 'em, show 'em off. If you don't, well, try not to get jealous.  Yes, of course, we're talking about the World Beard and Mustache Championships taking place in Portland on Saturday from 1-4pm. So if you've made the hairy commitment like thousands of other Portlanders, come rejoice in your solidarity in the biggest celebration of what makes men, well, men. That and a pair of testicles, I guess. If you're itching for a good time (sorry, had to say it) head down to the Keller and be amazed at what things people can actually do that dead stuff called "hair" growing out of them. Who knows? Maybe you'll be inspired and replicate some of these award winning beards and mustaches in time for Halloween. Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay St. (503)-248-4335. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, 1-4pm. Click HERE for ticket information.

10th Annual Great American Distillers Festival

Come enjoy this celebration of good spirits - literally - as distillers from across the nation share their passion and expertise in Portland, the capitol of craft brewing and distilling. Whether you're trying to discover your new go-to drink, looking to meet the craftsmen behind the bottle, or just wanting to have good spirits with good friends, the Great American Distillers Festival has it all. VIP tickets are available, giving you early entry into the event for personal one-on-one conversations with distillers. VIP's will also be given additional cocktail, tasting tokens and a special gift bag. Participating exhibitors include Bendistillery, Rogue Ales & Spirits, Tito's Handmade Vodka, and many more. Left Bank Annex, 101 N. Weidler St., 5 -10 pm Fri., Oct. 24; 4- 10 pm Sat., Oct. 25.  Click HERE for ticket information.

Salzburg Marionette Theater with Orion Weiss

If there was ever an event designed for children and adults, Orion Weiss and the Salzburg Marionette Theater have it covered: think puppets and classical music. Friends of Chamber Music and The College of Arts at PSU welcome New York pianist Orion Weiss - a regular at Chamber Music's Northwest's summer festival - who will be performing alongside four Austrian puppets as they get set to play Debussy's "The Toy Box". Weiss has previously performed this same program, getting a rave review from The New York Times for his performance's child-like appearance combined with a subtle and sophisticated score. Lincoln Hall, 1620 SW Park Ave., (503) 725-3307. 3 pm Sun., Oct. 26. Click HERE for ticket information.

BloodyVox: Nightmare on Northrup

Portland creativity is always continuing to impress us all, and this weekend is no exception. Head to Northwest Portland see BodyVox - the contemporary dance troupe - as they commence their new season with the annual show Halloween-themed show, "BloodyVox: Nightmare on Northrup." Centered around two giant spiders and conjoined twins, BloodyVox is a creepily entertaining display of dancing, athleticism, and halloween-themed theatrics that appropriate for all ages. 1201 NW 17th Ave., (503) 229-0627. 7 pm and 9 pm, Sat.-Sun. Oct. 24-25. Click HERE for ticket information.

Hollywood Theatre Presents: Ghostbusters

If you don't like this movie, then you must be a three-year-old who's scared of Mr. Stay Puft or you've already seen this classic about 89 times. Either way, that's understandable. But if you're only on viewing number 87, or if you're looking to have a good time while watching a good movie, be sure to check out the Hollywood Theatre for a showing of Ghostbusters this weekend. And it's a great chance to consider who might fill these dudes shoes now that it's been announced an all-female version of this franchise is in the works.  Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd.,  (503) 281-4215. Ghostbusters shows Oct. 24-31.
