Major Retail Outlets’ Thanksgiving Day Shopping Hours

Thursday, November 27, 2014

Retail Stores continue to open their doors earlier and earlier for the Thanksgiving shopping season. Black Friday is now Early Bird Thursday. Photo Credit: m01229 on Flickr

Talk about a whole new meaning to "early bird." In an effort to get a (turkey) leg up on the competition - and inevitably take consumers and employees away from their friends and family - department stores around the nation will be opening their stores bright and early on Thanksgiving day, because apparently, the day after is just too long of a wait to get that new GoPro camera for your dog.

Before you know it we're going to be moving Thanksgiving to the first Thursday in August just to appease shoppers' cravings for holiday season sales.

No one remembers what deals they got during Thanksgiving in 2011, but they will remember when Uncle Rick had too much to drink before deep frying that turkey and almost blew up the garage. But we digress.

The point is, Thanksgiving is for family, food, football and, apparently now, a lot of shopping.

Stores Open on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27 (arranged chronologically). Or bypass the shopping traffic and order online through the links below.

  • K-Mart: 6:00 am
  • J.C. Penney: 5:00 pm
  • Best Buy: 5:00 pm
  •  Toys 'R Us: 5:00 pm
  • Kohl's: 6:00 pm
  • Macy's: 6:00 pm
    • I think Macy's, NBC and the Federal Reserve are in cahoots to boost consumer confidence before the Fed raises interest rates, but maybe I'm crazy. I doubt it.

  • Sears: 6:00 pm
    • Can't wait to get that snowblower! Unless you get more than 30" of snow a year, use a shovel. It's good exercise.

  • Target: 6:00 pm
    • Technically pronounced "tar-jey", this store is really just Wal-Mart with a French beret and cooler facial hair.

  • Walmart: 6:00 pm
    • Actually, people-watching at Walmart can be interesting. Maybe Thanksgiving will be like the crème de la crème of Wal-Mart people watching?
