Cheryl Strayed, author of the #1 NYT best-selling memoir
Wild, will be a featured speaker at a benefit for
PlayWrite Inc. on May 27.
Strayed will be interviewed on-stage by the PlayWrite founder Bruce Livingston. A Q&A with Strayed and the audience will follow the interview.
A film adaption of Wild was released in August of 2014. The film stars Reese Witherspoon as Cheryl and Laura Dern as Cheryl’s mother. Cheryl’s daughter, Bobbi, plays Cheryl as a young girl as well. Witherspoon and Dern were both nominated for Academy Awards for their performances in this film.
Cheryl and her husband, filmmaker Brian Lindstrom, live in Portland with their children Bobbi and Carver.
The proceeds from Cheryl Strayed: A Benefit for PlayWrite will directly support PlayWrite Inc. PlayWrite provides workshops that connect youth with PlayWrite trained writing coaches. While working one-on-one with a coach, writers will have the opportunity to create plays based on their own emotional experiences. They will also be able to direct actors in live performances as well.
This event is set to take place on May 27th at the Newark Theatre, located 1111 SW Broadway in Downtown Portland. Tickets can be purchased at the Portland box office or here. Tickets cost between $25 and $75.
