Celebrate International Tabletop Day with Gaming Festivities in Portland

Wednesday, April 08, 2015

Settlers of Catan

This Saturday marks the 3rd annual International Tabletop Day (ITD). A day to celebrate tabletop gaming across the world, and if you thought last years events were big, this year will blow your face off!

Started by the internet community Geek & Sundry, a group founded by geek goddess Felicia Day, and featuring geek icons like Wil Wheaton, Adam de la Pena, Amy Berg, and Bryan Singer, International Tabletop Day is an opportunity for geeks and non-geeks around the world to celebrate the fun and community of tabletop gaming.

This year is expected to be much larger than last year's 3,000 plus individual events. There are some 55 events just across Oregon and Washington, and the map on the ITD website is crammed full of locations for events all over the world.

This is not just a great opportunity to for geeks and nerds to get out and play games, because really they’re already out there playing games. This is a chance for families or individuals who maybe have been curious about tabletop games to get out there and try almost any game under the sun.

Also, this is an awesome chance to support local businesses, as there are no major brick and mortar stores where you can buy games like Dominion and Settlers of Catan, and you certainly can’t plop down in your local Target for a game of Risk or Sorry.

There is also going to be a separate event on Sunday at Red Castle Games on Foster to help them recover from the drunk driver that crashed into their store on April 2nd. There will be a raffle with prizes from The Doubleclicks, Lee Moyer, Red Castle Games, and more. The PDX Broadsides will provide music, and they will be selling off their damaged inventory at a discount. Check out all the details at their Facebook event page here
