The 3rd Annual Internet Cat Festival Returns To Portland

Friday, June 19, 2015

Cats are seemingly taking over social media. No matter if you’re on Facebook, Twitter or Vine you will most likely stumble across a cat video that you just can’t help but watch. Our society loves to spend time watching cats. For that reason the Hollywood Theater will be hosting the 3rd annual Internet Cat Video Festival.

This entire festival is dedicated to the cute cat videos that we find on the Internet.

3 years ago Will Braden established the Internet Cat Video Festival in the middle of Minneapolis's Walker Arts Center Open Field. To his surprise this festival became a huge hit. Since then he's been touring around the world showing audiences some of the best cat videos that the internet has to offer.

What if I told you that watching cat videos will actually help improve your health?

Jessica Gall Myrick, a media researcher at Indiana University in Bloomington, conducted a study that revealed watching cat videos can boost your energy levels, heighten your positive emotions and decrease your negative feelings.

"Some people may think watching online cat videos isn't a serious enough topic for academic research, but the fact is that it's one of the most popular uses of the Internet today," Myrick said. "If we want to better understand the effects the Internet may have on us as individuals and on society, then researchers can't ignore Internet cats anymore."

If this research inspires you to watch more videos of these cuddly creatures then maybe consider attending the Internet Cat Video Festival this weekend at the Hollywood Theater. This is the perfect opportunity to get into a habit that is apparently good for your health.

Sombra

Breed: Chihuahua/ Mix

Gender: Female

Sombra is a tan female Chihuahua mix. She weighs about 10 lbs and is 1 year old. She is currently in foster care. If you are interested in her, contact her foster mom at (503) 262-7101 to find out more about her. She is wonderfully food responsive and gets along brilliantly with other dogs. She is afraid of new people and in new situations, so she would like to be adopted into a home with a social dog to help her learn that the world is not a scary place. She sticks close to her foster mom and sleeps in bed with her at night under the blankets. She is house trained and isn't destructive at all and is working on leash training. Because she is fearful in new situations, she needs to be adopted into a home with a backyard to feel safe in. She rides well in the car, but is pretty intimidated by the whole world outside her house. Inside the house is a safe wonderful place for her and she loves squeaky toys and is learning how to play with them. She seeks out attention and gives kisses. She is a nice mix of a little independence and a bounty of love invested in her dog siblings and their person. Ask about Sombra today!
