5 Fun Things To Do This Weekend Feb. 26-28

Friday, February 27, 2015

Celebrate Elizabeth taylor's Birthday and give to Portland AIDS programs.

This weekend offers many opportunities to rejoice with other Portlanders and celebrate what makes this city so great. Whether you regard that as our spirit of community service, our love of small craft breweries, or our love of art, there is something here for you.

Brewstillery Festival

North Portland's Stormbreaker Brewery is offering its very first Brewstillery Festival on Saturday. At this mash up of mash and other hip hoppy ingredients there will be 18 breweries and 12 distilleries represented. Your admission not only gets you a glass for tasting the good stuff but also ten tickets. At StormBreaker Brewing all of their beers are paired with a whiskey, scotch, or rum. This fest is designed to bring the best of brewing and distilling together.

Stormbreaker Brewery, 832 N Beech St., (971)703-4516, Saturday Feb. 28th, Tickets are $20 in advance ($25 the day of). Click here for tickets.

Celebrate Elizabeth Taylor’s Birthday

Elizabeth Taylor is a legendary film icon. We all know that. But she was also one of the earliest and most vocal early champions advocating for AIDS research. In the spirit of her activism, and with the full support of her granddaughter Lalea Wilding (one of Taylor's 10 grandchildren who just so happens to live in Portland), The Hollywood Theatre will be offering a screening of one Taylor's earliest films, "National Velvet," this Saturday afternoon. Thanks to the The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, 100-percent of the funds raised will go directly to two inspiring local AIDS organizations. The funds raised will help send kids affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS to Summer Camp at Camp KC at Cascade AIDS Project and support the Community Pet Care Program for HIV+ individuals at Our House.

Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd., 493-1128, 1:15-4:00pm, Saturday Feb. 28th, Tickets are $15. Additional donations encouraged.

Love of Portland Art Show

"Art" is a significant part of what makes Portland so "Portland." Stop in and get your "Portland on" at this exhibit from over 100 regional artists exploring the themes of love, Portland, and the love of Portland.  The fun and funky show will feature People’s Arts of Portland's stable of print artists including EMEK, Brin Levinson, Allison Burns and others.

People’s Art of Portland, 700 SW Fifth (3rd Floor) People’s is suite 4005. Reception Saturday, Feb 21-March 15th, donations encouraged.

Frank Olivier’sTwisted Cabaret

Frank Olivier’s Twisted Cabaret is a one-man show with a cast of a dozen characters, each more talented and demented than the last. A physical comedian of the strangest order, Frank Olivier is world-renowned for his juggling and singing as well as his inhuman level of energy and exuberance.

Alberta Rose Theatre, 3000 NE Alberta St., 719-6055, 10:30pm, Thursday Feb. 26th, 10:30pm, Friday Feb. 27th, 3:pm Matinee and 7:30 pm Saturday Feb. 28th. All ages. Tickets available here.
